President's Report

“Please know that I am aware of the hazards. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others.” Amelia Earhart

In 2015 our club women joined together in the spirit of unity amongst ourselves and the communities that we are a part of, to work together to form the Mentone Precious GEMS Women’s Club. The Mentone Precious GEMS Women’s Club became officially a part of the GFWC on October 17, 2015. Since then we have had an amazing fun filled year, spent determining roles, positions, and potentials.

The club started through stories told by members of the community, of the women of Mentone, who worked together to support the community that they were a part of. With a bit of research it was found that these women not only were joined locally, but they were also joined with other women throughout the world, who were pioneers and activist who engaged in the needs of our society and the world that we live in.

The Mentone Precious GEMS are proud to now be a member of such an incredible organization whose mission is to improve communities worldwide through volunteer service. Our recognition of the spirit of volunteerism in 2015, included the following accomplishments:

• Ensured that fifteen homeless students would have school supplies for the school year by donating 15 backpacks to students in the Redlands Unified School District.

• Sponsored a Toastee Toes Project which entailed providing two local community organizations with a box full of donated socks. Club members met the President of one of the organizations and a huge thank you for all of the donations and service to their organization.

• Held a Halloween Murder Mystery Masquerade party that allowed the women’s club to invite and engage new members in a fun and exciting way. Member of the women’s club and the community had fun while playing dress up, solving a murder mystery, and dancing the night away.

• Held a Hidden Gem sale for the community that encouraged members to “clean out their closets” and make way for the new and exciting opportunities that are awaiting them.

As a new club, I as President am excited at what we have accomplished in such a short amount of time. We are creating a legacy of altruism for the future of our community that will become pervasive. With the hard work and dedication that each member has shown I am positive that the future of our women, our club, and our communities is bright and booming with opportunity.
