President's Report

This has been and busy and exciting year for the 109 year old Colton Woman’s Club. We began a new International Project with the adoption of a small community and school in Mexico. Once a month the chairperson and one or two of our members travels to the community and helps with a food bank. We also support the 20 children in the small school with monies at Christmas and school supplies. Our next project with the school is to collect items for the play ground such as soccer balls and basket balls. The school sent picture of the children and are enjoyed by all our members.

We continue to be active with Santa Claus Incorporated by decorating and stuffing candy rolls each year at Christmas time and helping out as elves for the Christmas handouts.

It was decided this year to “show” woman in the community why they would want to be part of our Club by our actions in the community. We participated in the community parade; sponsored a booth and door prizes at the annual health fair. One of our members ran in a marathon. We actively tried to recruit women in our various churches and outside club activities. Once new members began to come they encouraged their friends to come. In the past year, our membership has increase by 10 new members. That is two more than the six new members from the previous year. We continue to encourage our members to extend an invitation to a neighbor and friends to join us for a free lunch to “check us out”. Our club was once known for having elderly members who were fairly enactive. We proud to say we still have a large group of woman over 80 but they are joined women who are for the most part recently retired and have the time to give back to their community and the club. We had a goal of eleven women participating at the district conferences and have beaten that each time.

We have had one disappointment in that our bowling league is no more. The funds collected by the league were donated to the nursing scholarship.

Once a month we play Bunco, we don’t win a lot of money but we eat and laugh and enjoy each other for two hours. Some have said that the Bunco group was so fun they had to join.

We participated in donating monies for the Capitol Tree project this year by donating $150 in a deceased past-president memory.

Our yearbook’s cover is the art work of one of our members and several members have expressed an interest in submitting work for the coming 2014-15 yearbook.

We donated to Heifer this year with a goat and two flocks of chickens. Our chairman puts small cows on tables at our luncheons and it really has increased donations. The chairman of Penny for Pines decorated small boxes with pine cones on them and donations have also increase since sitting the clever boxes on the tables at luncheon. These fun items are placed on each table for members to donate. Interplast is a project supported by the club for a long time. We not only sponsored a Hoby participant this year but a junior counselor to Hoby as well.

All the ladies of the Colton Woman’s Club are proud of our accomplishments; but the best part is the caring and loving members that are the Colton Woman’s Club. We truly enjoy each other’s company. New member have said the warmth of the ladies in the club when they visited was the reason they joined. We look forward to continue growth by being a Club that invites, welcomes and opens its arms to all.

Colton Rocks!
